Kidney disease and diabetes affect hundreds of millions of people worldwide and cause significant suffering, morbidity, and public health burden. There is also strong evidence that environmental and societal factors  interact with an individual's genetic risk, with a long history of discrimination and disparate health outcomes for these diseases among minority populations in the United States. PPH sociologists and computational biologists are collaborating with ethicists and nephrologists to generate novel clinical and therapeutic approaches and accurate predictions about progression and outcomes by integrating genetic, social, environmental data using advanced AI and other machine learning methods.
